Born in Michigan, I grew up in Illinois with my parents, sister, and brother. I lived in the suburbs of Chicago for 22 years, so visiting Chicago was a favorite pastime of mine. In 2020, I moved to Alabama. I have always enjoyed exploring new cities and countries, baking, playing the clarinet, and sitting at cafes with a good book to read.
As a student...
I attended Michigan State University (MSU) for both my undergraduate and my graduate studies. During the summer of 2016, I studied abroad in the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, and France. In the spring of 2017, I earned my bachelor's degree in Education with High Honors. I pursued a teaching major in Language Arts and teaching minors in Mathematics and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. As a part of MSU's teacher preparation program, I completed a fifth year internship. I both student taught 4th grade in Chicago Public Schools and began my graduate courses during this time. During my second year of teaching, I officially began MSU's Master of Arts in Education program. I earned my master's degree in the summer of 2021.
As a Teacher...
I have taught fourth and fifth grade. I started my teaching career in Illinois, where I taught fifth grade for two years. Then, I moved to Alabama and have been teaching fourth grade since 2020. I have experience teaching both self-contained and departmentalized instructional models. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I also have taught in a hybrid and a remote setting. These different modes of teaching and learning during my early years as a teacher have developed me into a versatile educator who seeks to do what is best for my students. I strive to showcase to my students my passion for learning and my goal for them to realize how important and powerful knowledge is in their lives.
